David Dahl, organist and director of music ministries for 40 years at Tacoma’s Christ Episcopal Church on North K Street, is retiring this weekend, due to weakening eyesight. His final performance will be at the 10:30 a.m. service on Aug.1. Succeeding him for 18 months as interim music director will be local organ expert Dr. Mark Brumbaugh and his wife Kathryn Nichols as choir director.

“I’ve always found David wonderful in his selection of music and choir direction,” says Jim Limerick, a vestry member at the church. “He has high taste in everything, and is respected nationwide. We’ll miss his service, but will appreciate his company in church.”

Dahl is well-known in the local music community, being the director of Christ

Dahl is well-known in the local music community, being the director of Christ Episcopal’s monthly noon recitals and a keyboard performer in many other concerts there.

“It is has truly been a most satisfying and gratifying position, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the work and association with the church,” says Dahl. “Of course I have some very mixed feelings about it. It does seem to be the right time for other reasons, as a new Rector begins on Aug. 2, the Rev. Dr. Jane Maynard.”

After his retirement, Dahl still intends to worship at the church, and will continue planning the Friday concerts, which begin again in the fall on Sept. 17. Christ Episcopal Church is located at 310 N. K St, Tacoma. 253-383-1569, www.ccptacoma.org
