Northwest hot-club jazz band Pearl Django has a new CD out, and on the cover and inside is the work of Tacoma painter Becky Frehse. Morphed into a horizontal brick pattern by graphic designer David Firman, Frehse’s mixed media “Walk Don’t Run” features swirly and abstract paintwork in light blues with found objects in a black font-type drawer. The CD, “Systeme D”, is dedicated to founding guitarist Neil Andersson, who’s just left the band after 16 years of playing to pursue his own painting, and features new guitarist Troy Chapman.

Pearl Django is known through the Northwest for their hot-club jazz, a style that pays homage to the French jazz of the early 20th century played by Django Reinhardt and others.
