Hallelujah – Cirque du Soleil fans can rejoice. The world-famous Canadian circus company is finally coming to Tacoma, performing their show “Alegria” at the Tacoma Dome from September 15-19. Tickets have just gone on sale.
Although Cirque prices are reflective of the stunning production values and international talent that goes into their touring shows, a Tacoma performance means cheaper parking for South Sounders (or none, if you take public transport), a much shorter drive and less hassle than for the company’s usual performances at Marymoor Park in Redmond.
“Alegria” will play for eight performances at the Dome. Named for a Spanish word for happiness, the show features 55 performers in a highly baroque setting showcasing acrobatics, particularly aerial work. Since its 1994 premiere “Alegria” has played to more than 10 million people worldwide, but in May 2009 the company reworked the production from its traditional Big Top setting to fit arenas such as the Dome, to allow for more venue opportunities. Acts include the Synchro Trapeze, the Aerial High Bars involving aerialists flying 40 feet above the stage, and the in-floor trampoline act Power Track.
Performances: 7:30 p.m. Sept. 15, 16, 17, 18; 3:30 p.m. Sept. 17, 18; and 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sept. 19. Tickets range from $35-$95 for adults, $28-$76 for children and are available at www.cirquedusoleil.com/alegria or at 800-968-2737.
