The Broadway Center for Performing Arts has announced the prizewinners of its Dream Home Raffle, an awareness-raiser for the organization that manages Tacoma’s downtown theaters. The raffle, the first of its kind in Washington state, has been ongoing since early this year, and has already seen two early draws on February 14 and April 15.
The winners of the final draw, announced Saturday evening, were Sandra Kennewick of Bellevue (Grand Prize, $25,000), Carol Simatic of Tacoma (1st Prize, $7,500), Sue Larson of Dupont (2nd Prize, $5,000 or 10-day cruise), Lindsay Helser of Tacoma (3rd Prize, $1,500 or seven-night vacation in Bali) and Terry Sax of Buckley (4th Prize, $1,000).
The Broadway Center, which has been selling the $99 tickets since New Year’s Eve, was inspired to put on the raffle by a desire to both raise awareness of the organization, promote Tacoma and its businesses and highlight downtown condominium living. The ultimate prize, sponsored by developer 505 Broadway (switched from The Commencement in Ruston), was to have been a downtown condo or $600,000 cash, depending on ticket sales. As only 2,894 tickets were sold, falling short of the minimum 17,000 needed to trigger the condo prize, the grand prize was instead the guaranteed minimum of $25,000 cash.
Ticket buyers also received about $300 worth of coupons, including hotel, wine, membership and jewelry deals.
The Broadway Center did not raise any funding from the project, but is pleased that the other goals were met.
“We were pleased with the outcome,” said BCPA executive director David Fischer.
