Seen pole dancing yet? Next week you’ll have two opportunities to see local pole dancers show off their athletic art here in Tacoma – at Barefoot Collective’s 8@8 night on Monday, and at Poledello dance studio on Wednesday.

The Monday night 8@8 is part of a regular Barefoot series of works-in-progress nights. Each performer gets around eight minutes to present something they’re working on, with eight performers starting at eight o’clock (get it?) The audience gives feedback, and it’s a great chance to see new work and offer your take on it. Monday night’s line-up includes a pole dancer among the other dancers. 8 p.m. May 24. $5. Merlino building Studio B, 508 6th Ave., Tacoma. 253-272-4219, www.barefootcollective.org

Wednesday night’s event is a full-length pole dancing evening featuring international Seattle-based artist Pantera, winner of Best Pole Tricks from the Miss Pole Dance World Sport competition in Jamaica. The show also features work by students at Poledello studio, and owner and instructor Noelle Wood.

Says Wood: “This co-ed performance focuses on the athletic and artistic tricks performed and accepted internationally in mainstream pole dancing, and provides an opportunity to educate the community about this unique and growing art form.”

8 p.m. May 26. $10 (space is limited.) 708 Broadway Suite 201, Tacoma. 253-509-8811, www.poledello.com

  1. You are NOT serious? Pole Dancing? I have seen the TNT Arts Editors and Reviewers now reach the lowest of standards

Legitimate arts organizations events and celebrations never receive a drop of ink in the TNT, yet you write about Pole Dancing? What next? Bikini line tatoo art?

The phrase, “All Your Taste Is In Your Mouth” absolutely describes these reviewers and their endorsements.

Re: the post by Olemag… Pole dancing is most definitely an art form and deserves to be written about in this section!!! I think it is wonderful that the mainstream media understands this even if you do not.

As for the article, thank you!!!! I am looking forward to the 8@8 event and am thrilled that the Tacoma dance community is open minded enough to include artistic pole dancing in this event. Best of luck to all of the dancers!!!

I agree with Sherina115. I think it is clear that Olemag is unaware of what mainstream pole dancing is. I think she is confusing it with pole dancing in strip-clubs. Not all pole dancers are strippers and not all strippers are pole dancers!! Athletic pole dancing is trying its hardest to further itself from that association and I applaud groups like the Barefoot Collective for being open-minded enough to see for themselves the artistry involved in this sport.

  4. 8@8 is a non-juried, “open-mic” night. The Barefoot Collective’s event is first-come, first serve.
