Former Mount St. Helens ranger Jim Gale retires after 32 years

From the National Park Service:

One of Pacific West Region’s most respected and revered park rangers, Jim Gale, hung up his flat hat for the last time on October 5th.

Gale served the National Park Service for 32 years, starting at Yellowstone and reaching the pinnacle of his career at Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park as chief of interpretation. Two hikers rescued at Zion National Park by crew from Grand Canyon

From the National Park Service:

On Saturday, May 21st, a 24-year-old hiker from Norway sustained a lower leg fracture near the summit of Angels Landing when he jumped approximately five feet off a small, isolated pinnacle atop the route. Grand Canyon’s helicopter and flight crew were summoned and short-hauled the man off the peak. While waiting for the helicopter, rangers prepared for a lengthy technical lowering operation down the 1,500-foot-high north face of the mountain should weather or other factors preclude a short-haul evacuation.
