The Wonderland Trail: A 93-mile backpacker’s dream

Each year 820 people attempt to hike the Wonderland Trail, the rigorous 93-mile path around Mount Rainier. Last September I hiked the trail with colleagues Matt Misterek and Drew Perine and Graham firefighter Thad Richardson.

Since March we’ve published a series of articles explaining the trails history as well as how to pack and train for this classic hike. On Sunday the 15-story series ends with our tale from the trail.

Mount Rainier’s Three Lakes forest fire contained, Laughingwater Creek Trail reopened

From Mount Rainier National Park:

The fire in the Three Lakes area of the park has been contained and is
currently being monitored for any possible flare ups.

Record dry conditions are being experienced throughout the state and
visitors are reminded to be extremely vigilant on preventing any source of
ignition, as the fire danger continues to remain high.

Smoke and haze from ongoing wildfires outside the park is visible in some
areas of the park.

At present, campfires are still being allowed in the fire pits in
