FISHING REPORT: Chinook biting in Cowlitz, Kalama, Lewis and other rivers

A look at how fish are biting in local rivers:

Columbia: The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife reports salmonid effort is down especially below Warrior Rock. Chinook must be released in this area. Anglers are landing fall Chinook, coho, steelhead and sturgeon in The Dalles Pool. Try the Bonneville Pool for Walleye.

Cowlitz: Anglers are landing fall Chinook and coho according to the WDFW. Fish Country Inc. says bank anglers at Barrier Dam are doing well when they throw “big gobs of eggs with sand shrimp. We have our corky guys wading out to the point and picking up

Hatchery chinook limits raised at Drano Lake, Wind River

The state this morning announced it has increased the daily limit for hatchery chinook at Drano Lake and Wind River. Up to six hatchery spring chinook may be retained and up to four may be adult chinook.

Here are the details:

Drano Lake

Effective dates: Thursday through July 31

Location: Drano Lake downstream of markers on point of land downstream and across from Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery and upstream from Hwy. 14 Bridge.

Daily limits: The salmonid daily limit will be six fish. Up to four may be adults of which no more than two may be hatchery
