Olympia, Tacoma honored among nation’s most bicycle friendly communities.

The League of American Bicyclists announced its rankings of bicycle friendly communities today and nothing has really changed in the South Sound.

Communities who earn rankings are given a designations of platinum (highest), gold, silver, bronze or honorable mention.

Olympia remains at the silver level, behind only Seattle’s gold ranking in Washington. Bellingham, Port Townsend and Redmond also earned silver rankings.

Tacoma remains at the bronze level with Bainbridge Island, Snohomish, Spokane and Vancouver.

Anacortes rounded out the Washington communities on the list with an honorable mention.

Couple who survived deadly Rainier storm getting married tomorrow in Whistler, B.C.

In the last line of a story I wrote last winter about a couple who survived a deadly storm on Mount Rainier, I shared a quote from Josephine Johnson of Lacey about her boyfriend of eight months.

“He is so amazing,” Johnson said of Jim Dickman, who lives in Vancouver, Wash. “I’m going to marry this man.”

Tomorrow she’ll make good on that promise when the couple plans to wed in Whistler, B.C. “Pique,” a Whistler news magazine, profiled the outdoor-lovers on its website yesterday, Valentine’s Day.

Rowers within moments of finishing 700-mile circumnavigation of Vancouver Island

UPDATED AT 9:15 P.M.

Sorry for the delay. The team arrived at Jericho Park at about 10 a.m. this morning completing its circumnavigation of Vancouver Island. More coverage in the Thursday and Friday editions of The News Tribune.

Craig Hill has sent a text that the OAR Northwest team is within sight of their landing spot. Under cloudy skies, but comfortable weather otherwise, the team is nearing the completion of their nearly three-week circumnavigation of Vancouver Island.
