Spot shrimp fishing in Tacoma waters reopens Wednesday

Recreational spot shrimp fishing will reopen for one day Wednesday in Marine Area 8-1 and Marine Area 11.

Area 11, the waters from the northern tip of Vashon Island to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, will be open from 7 a.m.-3 p.m.

Marine Area 8-1, mainly the waters on the east side of Whidbey Island, will open from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

The state is reopening the Tacoma waters because sufficient recreational spot shrimp quota remains for one more day of fishing.

Spot shrimp fishing will open for one day Wednesday in Marine Area 11 and most of Marine Area 10

Recreational spot shrimp fishing will reopen in Marine Area 11 and most of Marine Area 10 for one day on Wednesday.

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife announced the opening, saying sufficient recreational spot shrimp quota remains in the waters off Tacoma and central Puget Sound for one more day of fishing

The exception in Marine Area 10 is Elliott Bay, defined as all waters east of a line from West Point to Alki Point. The Elliott Bay portion of Marine Area 10 has a separate spot shrimp quota, and the quota has been reached in that area.

Marine Area 11 to reopen for spot shrimp fishing

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife just announced that recreational spot shrimp fishing will reopen for one day on May 20 in Marine Area 11 and May 20 and 22 in the Discovery Bay Shrimp District.

In Marine Area 11, the waters off Tacoma, shrimping will be allowed 7 a.m.-3 p.m. May 20.

The Discovery Bay Shrimp District will be open 7 a.m.-3 p.m. May 20 and May 22.
