Fishing report: Better action off Westport for salmon

RIVERS
Cedar: The trout fishing has been fair to good, especially early or late in the day. Dry flies will produce smaller rainbows. For bigger fish, use double nymph rigs with a large stonefly and a smaller nymph like a flashback pheasant tail.

Wynoochee: A few steelhead are being, with the action slowed a bit by low water levels. Try using a nightmare-pattern jig under a bobber, or small clusters of eggs or corkies.

Yakima: The trout fishing has been good during the day and very good in the evening. Fish a heavy nymph in the current seams during

Fishing reports: Plenty of good fishing news

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that will run in Saturday’s Sports section.

Lakes

Black: The afternoon fishing has been pretty good for all species but trout. The crappie and yellow perch action has really improved.

Harts: The crappie fishing has picked up in recent days, while the trout action has been in ther slow side. Mini-jigs in green-white or yellow-white fished under a bobber have been effective for crappie.

Potholes: Perch fishing continues to be excellent. The walleye action continued to improve this week, but still is a bit inconsistent. Some days people are bringing in limits,

Fishing report: River levels still on low side

Rivers

Cowlitz: State creel samples show the action has been pretty slow. There were 14 bank anglers checked and they had kept one steelhead, while seven boat anglers also kept just one steelhead. Last week, Tacoma Power employees recovered 24 winter-run steelhead, 43 coho adults and eight jacks during five days of operations at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator.

North Sound: River levels have come up a bit, but are still on the low side. The best steelhead action has been at the terminal fisheries like Reiter Ponds on the Skykomish, Tokul Creek on the Snoqalmie and Cascade River on

Fishing report: Trout lakes continue to fish well

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that will appear in Saturday’s paper.

Lakes
American: Look for the rainbow trout holding among the weeds in shallow water. Try using yellow Power Bait on a 4-foot leader. Some of the fish are topping 20 inches long.

Munn: The lake is still fishing well for trout. Go with white leeches fished on an intermediate- or fast-sink line.

Offut: The fishing for trout has improved, with most people catching their limits of rainbow trout. Some people are catching their limits in close to an hour. Dock anglers are using worms and

Fishing report: Saltwater action still good for coho

Here are some early reports from the fishing report that will appear in Wednesday’s Sports section.

Rivers

Green: The coho seem active, anglers just seem to be having issues hooking the fish. Most success seems to be on lure like Vibrax spinners, Dick Night spoons and Spin n Glos.

Lewis: Anglers are catching a mix of fall chinook, coho and a few steelhead.  Quite a few chinook and coho jacks are being caught. As of Monday, any chinook, adipose fin clipped or not, may be retained on the mainstem Lewis.

Nisqually: Try orange corkies and yarn for coho and chinook.

Fishing report: Skokomish chinook attracting crowds

UPDATED AT 3:32 P.M.

I got this two calls after I had filed my report for Saturday’s paper, so I thought I would include them here.

Mineral Lake: People are catching rainbow and brown trout, fishing with worms and marshmallows off the bottom with a 6-foot leader, said Doreen Douglas at Mineral Lake Resort. The lake is warming up, so fish early or late in the day.

Silver Lake (Pierce): The trout fishing has been good, especially before the sunshine hits the water. The trout have been cruising near the docks looking for small largemouth bass. The fishing
