Fishing report: Plenty of options this week and more on Saturday

Trout anglers will have more options to try when the lowland lake fishing season opens Saturday. As a bonus, the state Department of Fish and Wildlife has stocked an 80,000 extra catchable-size fish in lakes in Pierce, Thurston, King, Mason, Jefferson and Snohomish counties. Fishing report: Salmon slowly making their way into local rivers

Here are some early reports from the fishing report that will appear in Wednesday’s paper:

Saltwater

Sekiu: The fishing has dropped off, but a good number of coho are still being caught. The number of anglers has dropped since the area is closed to keeping of chinook.

South Sound: Salmon anglers have been having some luck catching chinook and a handful of coho. The fish are scattered with anglers hooking fish off the Gig Harbor shoreline, Point Dalco, slag pile and the clay banks. Most people are trolling flashers with with bait or hoochies, running their gear 60-90 feet deep

Fishing report: Hot salmon fishing at Sekiu

Here are some early reports as I work on the fishing report for Wednesday’s newspaper:

Saltwater

Hood Canal: A few chinook are being caught, but the action is far from hot and heavy, Adams said.

Sekiu: The salmon fishing has been very good, with anglers catching mostly chinook but also a fair number of coho. There were 281 anglers checked by the state at Sekiu docks Saturday and their catch included 111 chinook and 66 coho.
