Nick Hall: Family says ranger loved the outdoors and loved Rainier

Their faith and understanding of Nick Hall’s passion for the outdoors is helping sustain his family as they deal with his death after falling during a rescue on the mountain.

“One of Nick’s goals was full-time, year-round outdoor recreation employment. Mount Rainier helped make that happen,” said Aaron Hall, the climbing ranger’s brother. “He loved this place. He felt comfortable here.”

Drug use suspected in accident that killed state park ranger near Seabeck

From the Associated Press:

SEABECK, Wash. — A Kitsap County sheriff’s spokesman says drug use is suspected in the two vehicle head-on crash that killed a park ranger Friday night near Seabeck, Wash.

Sgt. Ken Dickinson says the 44-year-old ranger was apparently driving home from work when a Ford Thunderbird crossed the center line and collided with his vehicle head-on.

The 35-year-old man driving the Thunderbird was arrested for suspicion of vehicular homicide. His bail was set at $500,000.

Dickinson says the initial investigation indicated narcotics were involved, but final toxicology results are pending
