State shortens clam dig season at Dosewallips State Park, Port Whitney Tidelands

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife today announced it will shorten the sport clam season at Dosewallips State Park.

The clam fishing season at the park will be open April 1- Aug. 15.

State shellfish officials said the recreational effort increased significantly in 2012, and the state clam share was overharvested, requiring the department to shorten the season by 3 ½ months in 2013. Oysters remain open year-round on this beach.

The park is located in Jefferson County near Brinnon.

It is a similar situation at nearby Port Whitney Tidelands.
