Fishing report: Best salmon fishing in the Strait

Lakes

Offut: The trout fishing has been best in the cool of the morning. Try Power Bait and nightcrawlers. The bass and perch fishing is picking up. Crappie jigs and nightcrawlers are effective for the perch.

Silver: The largemouth bass action has been good to very good. Some of the fish are weighing 3-6 pounds. The crappie action also has been very good, especially at sunset. Trolling Wedding Rings with a worm right above the grass line has been producing catfish. The action is best early or late in the day.

Fishing report: Cooler water temperatures improve trout fishing

Here are some highlight from the fishing report that will appear in Saturday’s Sports section.

Rivers

Cowlitz: The summer-run steelhead fishing has been slow, but it is expected to pick up in the next couple of weeks as more fish move into the system.

Sol Duc: The river wiil close to all fishing in the vicinity of Sol Duc Hatchery Saturday. The closure, in place until further notice, extends from the Sol Duc Hatchery outfall creek upstream to the concrete pump station. Fishing report: Spanaway Lake producing big trout

Here are the highlights from the fishing report that will run in Saturday’s Sports section.

With good weather in the forecast, there might be a lot of people at your favorite fishing hole. Remember to give each other some room and enjoy the Easter weekend.

The state has put some new fishing rules in place, as an emergency, while the permanent regulations approved in March by the state Fish and Wildlife Commission will take effect May 1.

Fishing report: Lake action improves for trout

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that will appear in Saturday’s Sports section.

Lakes

Offut: People are catching a few trout, especially when the day warms up. Power Bait and a worm has been a good combo. People also are trolling with Wedding Rings or a Triple Teazers with a split shot.

Seep Lakes: Several lakes are producing limits of rainbow trout. Upper Goose has been the best producer with relatively quick limits in the 14- to 16-inch range. Blythe and Corral have produced occasional limits with some trout topping 18 inches. The best method has been still

Fishing report: Lake fishing for trout getting better

Rivers

Olympic Coast: The rivers are in good shape and should be that way through early next week. The Hoh and Sol Duc would be good options for this weekend, although the Hoh will likely draw a crowd. The Bogachiel and Calawah are not fishing quite as well.

Skookumchuck: The fishing has been fair, with anglers reporting they need patience as well as eggs, jigs and floats or corkies and yarn, to hook a steelhead.

Yakima: The fishing has been fair to good. For the most part, people are drifting nymphs like a 20 Incher and skwalas in sizes 6-10.

Fishing report: Mixed reports on steelhead action

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that will be appear in Saturday’s Sports section:

Lakes

American: Anglers are reporting they have been catching smaller fish as of late. Power Eggs, in green or yellow, fished off the bottom is still the go-to method right now. People are using garlic and herring scents.

Offut: The action for the trout has been pretty consistent for this time of year. The rainbows have been measuring 14-20 inches with a good girth. Most people are using dough bait and worms fished off the bottom.

Fishing report: River levels still on low side

Rivers

Cowlitz: State creel samples show the action has been pretty slow. There were 14 bank anglers checked and they had kept one steelhead, while seven boat anglers also kept just one steelhead. Last week, Tacoma Power employees recovered 24 winter-run steelhead, 43 coho adults and eight jacks during five days of operations at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator.

Fishing report: River fishing shows signs of improving

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that will appear in Saturday’s Sports section.

As long as we don’t get a lot of rain, river conditions should be good this weekend, although they might be a bit high.

Rivers

Green: People are catching a mix of steelhead and cutthroat trout near Flaming Geyser State Park. People are reporting have success fishing with pink worms or eggs.

Humptulips: People are catching a mix of coho and steelhead, and an occasional late but still bright chinook.
