Search for missing South American dignitary ends happily at Louisiana’s Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve

From the National Park Service:

 

Dr. Francisco Piedrahita was found yesterday afternoon in the park’s Barataria Preserve unit following an intensive four-day-long interagency search. He was spotted from a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department helicopter that was conducting a media overflight and a ground team was dispatched to his location. Piedrahita was found leaning against a tree approximately 300 yards off of a park trail – extremely dehydrated but coherent and in fairly good shape. – and was transported to a waiting ambulance by ATV. Search underway for South American dignitary in Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve near New Orleans

From the National Park Service:

A New Orleans-based taxicab transported Francisco Piedrahita, the 65-year-old president of ICESI University in Cali, Colombia, from his hotel in New Orleans to Barataria Preserve late on the afternoon of Saturday, May 21st, so that he could photograph birdlife in the park. When Piedrahita failed to return in a timely manner from a walk along the Plantation Trail in the Pecan Grove section of the preserve, the driver became concerned and sought out park rangers.
