Former Mount Rainier staffer Rick Harris retires from National Park Service Northeast Region associate director post

From the National Park Service:

Richard “Rick” Harris, associate regional director for natural resources, science, conservation and recreation assistance in Northeast Region, retired on October 3rd.

Rick began his federal career in 1976 working on wilderness management issues with the US Forest Service in the Pacific Northwest. From the beginning of his National Park Service career in 1983 at Mount Rainier National Park to his final assignment, Rick has been a champion for protecting and preserving resources in parks.

Ranger uses Facebook to catch vandals at El Morro National Monument

From the “Be careful what you post on Facebook” file. These vandals from the University of New Mexico were caught by a crafty El Morro National Monument ranger who tracked them down using Facebook. Now they owe $30,000 in fines.

On March 21st, two South Korean foreign exchange students attending the University of New Mexico on student visas pled guilty to charges of disturbing an archeological site.
