Nick Hall: Park operations begin return to normal

While the memorial service for climbing ranger Nick Hall was taking place at Paradise this morning, operations around Mount Rainier National Park resumed a normal pace.

The Sunrise area opened Friday morning for the first time this season. It was scheduled to open June 22, but those plans were scrapped following Hall’s accident.

The area will remain open for the rest of the season, said park superintendent Randy King. The area had been closed in case it was needed for use by helicopters involved in the recovery of Hall’s body. It is unlikely that will need to happen now, King

Mount Rainier shuttle service resumes service Friday

Visitors to Mount Rainier National Park will again be able to ride free visitor shuttles into the park from Ashford, and from Longmire and Paradise during the summer.

The shuttles will begin running Friday.

On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays the shuttle will run between Longmire and Paradise with stops at Cougar Rock and Narada Falls on the uphill run, and stopping at Comet Falls and Cougar Rock on the downhill run. At Longmire, visitors can board the shuttle at the historic Longmire Gas Station.
