Fishing report: Ocean salmon fishing begins shut down

Here are some reports that will be included in the full fishing report in Saturday’s paper:

Rivers

Nisqually: The action has slowed down in recent days. Anglers are catching a few dark chinook, but not much else.

Puyallup: The fishing has been slow in the latter part of the week. Most folks are blaming the low water levels.

Skokomish: The river is producing a fair number of coho, and a chum salmon here and there. Eggs seem to be the best bait to use right now.

Lakes

Black: The action remains on the slow side. Trout anglers should try slowly

Fishing report: Coho fishing is good to excellent

Here are some excerpts from the fishing report that will appear in Wednesday’s paper.

Rivers

Green: Twitching jigs without a float has been the most effective method to hook coho. A lot of chinook are moving up the river as well.

Nisqually: The fishing for chinook has been fair in recent days. Try using eggs drifted under a bobber in the slack water. Others are using Glo Balls and black yarn.

Puyallup: The fishing has been good to very good for coho. Most people are using corkies and yarn. Color preference seems to depend on the angler. Orange, red and

Fishing report: Skokomish chinook attracting crowds

UPDATED AT 3:32 P.M.

I got this two calls after I had filed my report for Saturday’s paper, so I thought I would include them here.

Mineral Lake: People are catching rainbow and brown trout, fishing with worms and marshmallows off the bottom with a 6-foot leader, said Doreen Douglas at Mineral Lake Resort. The lake is warming up, so fish early or late in the day.
