Feb. 3 is the date for Leavenworth’s annual Chicks on Sticks cross-country breast cancer fundraiser according to an email I received today from Rebecca Darley of the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club announcing. I’ve heard this event has been growing since it started 11 years ago, but I didn’t realize it was big enough to go toe-to-toe with the Super Bowl. Might be a good way to keep your mind off the fact that the Seahawks aren’t playing.

Three more Washington ski resorts announced opening dates today.

Ski Bluewood south of Dayton plans to open Friday.

Leavenworth Winter Sports Club plans to open for cross country skiing on Friday and for tubing on Saturday.

Loup Loup Ski Bowl between Twisp and Okanogan has announced a Saturday opening.

Also, Mount Hood Ski Bowl in Government Camp, Ore., plans to open its tubing hills on Saturday.

Most of the Northwest’s major ski areas are already open.
