Fishing reports: Lots of good action these days

Here are some of the reports that will be included in the fishing report that runs in Wednesday’s Sports section:

Rivers

Columbia: The spring Chinook action was fairly slow last week, based on state creel samples. There were 1,031 bank anglers checked, and they kept 59 adult Chinook and eight jacks, plus 16 steelhead. They released 42 adults and 18 jacks. There also were 605 boaters checked and they kept 39 adults, seven jacks and 22 steelhead. They also released 42 adults and eight jacks. Fishing report: Weekend rain slowed the action

If you were like me last weekend, stuck dodging the rain while running from indoor soccer games to lacrosse games, the idea of going fishing certainly would have seemed appealing. Well, it wasn’t. That’s the consensus of just about everyone regarding last weekend’s action.

Still, some people were catching fish. Here are the highlights from the fishing report that will run in Wednesday’s Sports section.

Rivers

Columbia: The salmon fishing improved some last week. In sampling done below Bonneville Dam, 3,225 anglers had 479 adult and three jack spring chinook and four steelhead. Sturgeon anglers are catching some legal-size fish

Fishing report: Weather could make weekend dicey

Here are highlights from the fishing report that will appear in Saturday’s Sports section:

This weekend’s success – and safety – will largely be predicated by the weather. Rivers were rapidly rising Friday, so if the rain continues it could make water conditions unfishable. The strong winds in the forecast will make fishing Puget Sound difficult and could make for dangerous conditions for the weekend razor clam dig. Wave heights off Cape Elizabeth were at 17 feet Friday morning. State officials warn digs to be extra cautious when waves there top 11 feet.

Fishing report: Coho fishing best salmon action right now

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that will appear in Wednesday’s newspaper:

Saltwater

North Sound: The coho salmon action is red hot, with most people bringing home their limits. Creel samples last week showed people averaged more than a salmon per person. The fishing has been good from Mukilteo down to the Shilshole area.

South Sound: The coho action in the waters off Tacoma are as good as they have been in quite a while. Some of the best action has been in the Redondo area, the slag pile, Quartermaster Harbor and the Gig Harbor shoreline. People have
