Fishing report: Reports are mixed

Salt water

Fly fishing: The searun cutthroat trout action remains very good. Use any type of baitfish patterns, although many anglers are still opting for flies that mimic chum fry.

South Sound: Salmon fishing south of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge remains open. Good places to try include Point Gibson, Green Point and the mouth of Wollochet Bay. The lingcod fishing has been a bit slow overall.

Westport: The halibut fishing got off to a good start, with charter boats bringing in limits during Sunday’s opener, as well as some limits of lingcod.

Lakes

Fishing report: Reports are mixed, in part because of the weather

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that will run in the Sports section in Wednesday’s newspaper.

Rivers

Columbia: The state last week we sampled 2,348 anglers who had 82 adult and one jack spring chinook and five steelhead. Fishing success improved in the Cathlamet area as the week progressed. Remember, the the mainstem below Bonneville Dam will be closed to fishing for salmon, steelhead and shad Tuesday and April 2.
