Fishing report: Best salmon fishing in the Strait

Lakes

Offut: The trout fishing has been best in the cool of the morning. Try Power Bait and nightcrawlers. The bass and perch fishing is picking up. Crappie jigs and nightcrawlers are effective for the perch.

Silver: The largemouth bass action has been good to very good. Some of the fish are weighing 3-6 pounds. The crappie action also has been very good, especially at sunset. Trolling Wedding Rings with a worm right above the grass line has been producing catfish. The action is best early or late in the day.

Fishing report: Reports are mixed

Salt water

Fly fishing: The searun cutthroat trout action remains very good. Use any type of baitfish patterns, although many anglers are still opting for flies that mimic chum fry.

South Sound: Salmon fishing south of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge remains open. Good places to try include Point Gibson, Green Point and the mouth of Wollochet Bay. The lingcod fishing has been a bit slow overall.

Westport: The halibut fishing got off to a good start, with charter boats bringing in limits during Sunday’s opener, as well as some limits of lingcod.

FISHING REPORT: Chinook biting in Cowlitz, Kalama, Lewis and other rivers

A look at how fish are biting in local rivers:

Columbia: The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife reports salmonid effort is down especially below Warrior Rock. Chinook must be released in this area. Anglers are landing fall Chinook, coho, steelhead and sturgeon in The Dalles Pool. Try the Bonneville Pool for Walleye.

Cowlitz: Anglers are landing fall Chinook and coho according to the WDFW. Fish Country Inc. says bank anglers at Barrier Dam are doing well when they throw “big gobs of eggs with sand shrimp. We have our corky guys wading out to the point and picking up
