Big Bear, Calif., 15-year-old claims to be youngest to climb Seven Summits

BIG BEAR, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California teenager became the youngest person to successfully climb to the summit of the seven tallest mountains on Earth’s seven continents, according to his website.
Jordan Romero, 15, called his mother Leigh Ann Drake on Saturday to confirm that he’d achieved his goal of reaching the top of Mt. Vinson Massif in Antarctica.
The Big Bear, Calif.-native beat the record previously held by British climber George Atkinson, who completed the ascents at age 16 in May.

Image of youngest person to summit Mount Everest

At the age 13, Jordan Romero on Saturday became the youngest climber to reach the peak of Mount Everest.

We had a story in Sunday’s News Tribune about the accomplishment of the Big Bear, Calif., resident.

Before him, the youngest climber to scale Everest had been Temba Tsheri of Nepal, who reached the peak at age 16, according to the Associated Press story.

But today we are getting the first photos of Romero on top of the world, at 29.035 feet above sea level.

Which leads me to these questions:
