Fishing report: Mixed reports on steelhead action

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that will be appear in Saturday’s Sports section:

Lakes

American: Anglers are reporting they have been catching smaller fish as of late. Power Eggs, in green or yellow, fished off the bottom is still the go-to method right now. People are using garlic and herring scents.

Offut: The action for the trout has been pretty consistent for this time of year. The rainbows have been measuring 14-20 inches with a good girth. Most people are using dough bait and worms fished off the bottom.

Spanaway: The fishing has been a little slow.

Fishing report: River anglers await forecasted rain

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that ran in today’s Sports section.

Saltwater

Fly fishing: Anglers are catching resident coho are not only in the Tacoma Narrows, but in Colvos and Hales passages, and even in Case Inlet. Look for jumping or fish breaking the surface. Baitfish and krill patterns have been best, including West’s Imitator, euphasiids and pink/white Clousers.

South Sound: The salmon fishing south of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge has been slow, in large part because of the less-than-ideal weather. Squid action has slowed down.

Fishing report: River fishing shows signs of improving

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that will appear in Saturday’s Sports section.

As long as we don’t get a lot of rain, river conditions should be good this weekend, although they might be a bit high.

Rivers

Green: People are catching a mix of steelhead and cutthroat trout near Flaming Geyser State Park. People are reporting have success fishing with pink worms or eggs.

Humptulips: People are catching a mix of coho and steelhead, and an occasional late but still bright chinook.

Olympic Coast: The steelhead action has been improving. The Bogachiel has been a good spot

Fishing report: It’s a mixed bag out there

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that will appear in Saturday’s Sports section.

Rivers

Cowlitz: Freedrifting has been producing some steelhead, even though water levels remain high. Shore fishing has been best around Blue Creek.

Green: There are still plenty of chum in the river, but the vast majority of the fish are very dark. Any kind of gear in green has been producing bites. The steelhead fishing has been slow.

Fishing report: Razor clam dig OK’d, decent salmon fishing

Here are some highlights from the full fishing report that will appear in Saturday’s sports section.

Lakes

American: The lake is producing some large rainbow trout. The morning bite has been the most productive. Anglers are floating yellow dough bait 3-4 feet off the bottom.

Potholes: Anglers are catching limits of yellow perch from the Medicare Beach area. They are fishing from a boat in water 20-40 feet deep. Bass fishing has been good in Crab Creek in the afternoon The walleye fishing is slow, but should pick up as temperatures drop.

Fishing report: Clam dig this weekend, better salmon fishing

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that will appear in Saturday’s Sports section.

Saltwater

Beaches: The next razor-clam dig of the season gets under way at four ocean beaches today. Twin Harbors beach will open for digging after noon Saturday-Tuesday. The other beaches – Long Beach, Copalis and Mocrocks – are open for digging today and Sunday. The low tide times are: today, 5:57 p.m., +0.2 feet; Sunday, 6:36 p.m., -0.1 feet; Monday, 7:12 p.m., -0.3 feet; and Tuesday, 7:46 p.m., -0.4 feet.

Fishing report: Action slows down

Here are some highlights from the full fishing report that will appear in Wednesday’s Sports section:

Lakes

Dry Falls: The trout fishing has been good, with some fishing reaching 18 inches. Dark leeches and callibaetis nymphs are working well.

Rufus Woods; Black marabou jigs have been effective as of late. If the triploid rainbow trout won’t hit your artificial offerings, try a slip sinker rig with Pautzke’s Firebait in the American wildfire. Remember, the heavier the current, the longer your leader needs to be.

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that will appear in Satuday’s Sports section.

Rivers

Carbon: The coho action remains pretty good, with most people bringing home a fish. Bobber and eggs are effective when the water is clear and corkies and yarn in rocket red are another good option.

Chehalis: The river has been producing some large chinook salmon, just not a lot of fish. Fishing with eggs under a bobber has been effective. Anglers also are picking quite a few coho and some steelhead.
