Fishing report: Good trout action in area lakes

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that will appear in Wednesday’s Sports section.

Rivers

Green: The steelhead action is slowly improving. The Flaming Geyser State Park and state Route 18 bridge area have been the best spots. Bank anglers should try sand shrimp on a jig or under a bobber, or spinners and spoons. Boat anglers are having the best success, pulling plugs.

Naches: The fishing has been good for cutthroat trout. Use any terrestial pattern in size 10. The river level is still high enough to float with a raft.

Nisqually: There have been few reports, but

Fishing report: Good prospects for the weekend

Rivers

Cowlitz: The river has been slow to fair for summer-run steelhead in the Blue Creek area. Free drifting eggs from a boat has been most effective, but try back trolling baits or plugs when eggs are not working. The spring chinook action has been best at the barrier dam. Try using eggs and sand shrimp.

Green: People are catching a few steelhead and the water is in good shape. Floats and jigs or spinners are the most popular gear. Try No. 3 size spinners with a black blade and gold body or a gold blade and black body.

Pink and coho salmon should provide good fishing this year

Anglers in the South Sound should see this year fishing seasons and quotas that will be similar to those last year.

That was the assessment offered Friday by Pat Pattillo, the salmon policy lead for the state Department of Fish and Wildlife following a meeting at which salmon forecasts for the coming year were released.

The forecasts will be the basis of negotiations over the next month leading to the establishing of recreational, commercial and tribal fishing season.

The bright spots for Puget Sound anglers this year will be pink and coho salmon.

More than half of the 6.2 million

Fishing report: River fishing shows signs of improving

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that will appear in Saturday’s Sports section.

As long as we don’t get a lot of rain, river conditions should be good this weekend, although they might be a bit high.

Rivers

Green: People are catching a mix of steelhead and cutthroat trout near Flaming Geyser State Park. People are reporting have success fishing with pink worms or eggs.

Humptulips: People are catching a mix of coho and steelhead, and an occasional late but still bright chinook.

Olympic Coast: The steelhead action has been improving. The Bogachiel has been a good spot

Fishing report: It’s a mixed bag out there

Here are some highlights from the fishing report that will appear in Saturday’s Sports section.

Rivers

Cowlitz: Freedrifting has been producing some steelhead, even though water levels remain high. Shore fishing has been best around Blue Creek.

Green: There are still plenty of chum in the river, but the vast majority of the fish are very dark. Any kind of gear in green has been producing bites. The steelhead fishing has been slow.

Humptulips: The late coho are starting show up and the fishing has been fair to good. A few steelhead also are being caught. Spinners and plugs have

Fishing report: Improved salmon action

Rivers

Chehalis: Coho fishing has been good to very good. Spinners, plugs and eggs all seem to work. The key has been moving around looking for the fish or anchoring and waiting for them to come to you. It is a similar story on the Satsop.

Cowlitz: The river is producing some good numbers of coho as well as a few winter-run steelhead. Try the area around Blue Creek for steelhead and the area around the barrier dam for coho. Back troll plugs or use eggs or jigs under a float.

Green: The fishing has been fair to good, with

Fishing report: Clam dig continues, decent salmon fishing

Here are some highlights as I work on the fishing report that will appear in Wednesday’s Sports section.

Rivers

Green: Anglers are reporting there are plenty of chum and coho in the river. Effective methods for catching them have been drifting shrimp on a pink jig. The action seems to be best in the upper river, above the state Route 18 bridge.

Kennedy: The chum action is heating up, with more fish entering the creek and drawing a crowd. Many of the fish are already dark. Green is a good color to start with, but it seems getting your gear
