Surviving on the mountain topic of Wednesday’s fireside chat

Ranger Fawn Bauer will talk Wednesday about survival on Mount Rainier, looking at strategies used by plants, animal and humans.

Bauer’s talk is part of Mount Rainier National Park’s new Fireside Chat. The brief and informal programs will be held each Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the National Park Inn at Longmire.

The program is free, but admission to the park is $15 per vehicle.

Mount Rainier rangers hold Wednesday fireside chat programs

Rangers will be offering Fireside Chats, a new informal winter program at Mount Rainier National Park, beginning this afternoon at the National Park Inn.

Staffers will be giving the free, informal presentations at 1:30 p.m. each Wednesday at the hotel at Longmire. The topics of the short presentations will vary from week to week.

The chats begin today with a program by Karen Thompson on the park’s wilderness area.

Park visitors are reminded that the road from Longmire to Paradise is not open Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
