Classic $800,000 Cobra sports car goes up in flames in Zion National Park tunnel

From the National Park Service:

A 1964 Cobra sports car valued at $800,000 was completely consumed in a fire in the Zion Mount Carmel tunnel on the afternoon of Monday, May 21st. The fire was reported to the park just after 5 p.m. and the park’s structural fire engine company responded along with the Springdale/Rockville fire department and two wildland fire engines. Olympic National Park institutes ban on all open backcountry fires

From Olympic National Park:

Olympic National Park has instituted a ban on all open fires in the park’s wilderness backcountry, effective as of September 10, 2011. The ban is in response to the warmer temperatures of summer and the continued drying out of forest fuels, both forecast to continue in coming weeks.

This ban has been instituted in conjunction with the Olympic National Forest, and is expected to be in place until seasonal rains occur in October.
