Fishing report: Low river levels slow action, North Sound hot spot for coho

Here is a preview of the fishing report that will run in Saturday’s Sports section.

Saltwater

North Coast: The best salmon fishing last week was off La Push, where anglers averaged 1.15 fish per person. Most of the fish were coho. At Neah Bay, the catch rate dropped to .85 salmon per person.

North Sound: The coho fishing has been excellent in recent weeks, in fact the best it has been in several years. The stretch from Browns Bay south to the Marine Area 10 line has been a great spot. Farther north, try Naketa Beach, Shipwreck and Picnic points.

Lack of coho forces more fishery closures

Low or late coho runs continue to have an effect on area fisheries. The state Department of Fish and Wildlife today announced several closures.

These waters are being closed, the state said, because coho runs are lower than expected and hatcheries might not be able to collect enough eggs to meet egg-take goals.

The fisheries are expected to reopen if egg-take needs are met.

Lake Washington: Saturday through Oct. 31
