Clam, oyster season at Fort Flagler to open May 15

The sport clam and oyster fishing season at Fort Flagler State Park, including that portion of the spit west of the park boundary (Rat Island), will open May 15.

The season will now run through Sept. 30.

The Fort Flagler State Park beach is located in Jefferson County on Admiralty Inlet.

Surveys show the clam population has increased, allowing a one-month longer season this year. In 2011 the season ran from April 15-July 31. The delayed opening date avoids conflicts with the seaweed season on this beach, and adds harvest opportunity in the Admiralty Inlet region after other local

Penrose Point clam and oyster season ends Monday

The sport clam and oyster fishing seasons at Penrose Point State Park will close Monday until further notice. The park is located in Pierce County on Carr Inlet.

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife said surveys show the shellfish population will not support a recreational season in 2010. The closure, in effect until further notice, is for all clams and oysters.
