Nick Hall: Three flags at half staff at Glacier National Park in honor of Rainier ranger

I spent today at Glacier National Park in Montana where the rangers are wearing black bands on their badges in honor of Mount Rainier National Park climbing ranger Nick Hall. Hall died last week when he fell on the Emmons Glacier while working to save four climbers from Texas.

While all national parks are flying flags at half staff and wearing black bands on ranger badges, at Glacier three different flags are flying at half staff. The United States, Canada and Blackfeet Nation flags all are at half staff in honor of Hall. Glacier National Park borders the Blackfeet Indian

Two climbers killed in avalanche on Mt. Frances in Denali National Park

From the National Park Service:

Two overdue climbers on Mt. Frances were confirmed dead after Denali National Park mountaineering rangers located their remains in avalanche debris near the base of the 10,450-foot Mt. Frances. Jiro Kurihara, 33, of Canmore, Alberta, Canada, and Junya Shiraishi, 28, of Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, were attempting a new route on the west face of Mt. Frances, a commonly climbed technical peak just north of the 7,200-foot Kahiltna Basecamp, when the avalanche occurred.  The two men were last seen at the Kahiltna Basecamp on May 21st.
