Agencies on look out for people boating under the influence

Boaters should be aware that federal, state, county and local law enforcement agencies will be cracking down this weekend on people boating under the influence
Taking place Friday-Sunday, Operation Dry Water is an annual education and enforcement effort aimed at reducing alcohol and drug-related accidents and fatalities.

According to U.S. Coast Guard data from 2009, alcohol was a primary factor in 16 percent of fatalities from recreational boating accidents.

Held each year the weekend before the Fourth of July holiday, Operation Dry Water is coordinated by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators in partnership with the states,

Coast Guard offers boating safety reminders

As the Pacific Northwest prepares to kick off the 2010 boating season, the U.S. Coast Guard issued a news release reminding boaters to have a ‘SWEET’ time on the water.
