Margaret Anderson’s name added to law enforcement memorial



The engraved name of Margaret Anderson, the Mount Rainier National Park ranger killed Jan. 1, 2012, was unveiled this morning at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Also unveiled today was the name of Prince William County (Va.) Police Officer Chris Yung.

The annual Unveiling Day ceremony takes place each year to symbolically starts the process of engraving new names onto the memorial’s marble walls.

House passes bill to name Eatonville post office after Margaret Anderson

The U.S. House of Representatives Wednesday passed legislation that would name the Eatonville post office after slain Mount Rainier ranger Margaret Anderson.

The bill, H.R. 5788, would name the post office National Park Ranger Margaret Anderson Post Office. The measure awaits action in the Senate.

The legislation was sponsored by Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Auburn) to honor Anderson who was shot and killed Jan. 1 while on duty at Mount Rainier National Park. Mount Rainier National Park to remain closed Monday

Mount Rainier National Park will remain closed Monday as law enforcement personnel search for the gunman who killed park ranger Margaret Anderson this morning.

Benjamin Colton Barnes, a 24-year-old with military experience, is considered a “strong person of interest” according to police.  According to KOMO-TV, Barnes is also a suspect in a shooting this morning in Skyway that injured four people.

Police say they’ve identified a “strong person of interest” in the fatal New Year’s Day shooting of a Mount Rainier Park National Park ranger. Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says 24-year-old Benjamin Colton Barnes is believed to have military experience and possess skills to survive in the wild. Troyer says the man’s vehicle was recovered, which had weapons and body armor.Police are still searching the park for a gunman who authorities say shot 34-year-old Margaret Anderson about 11 a.m.Troyer says armored vehicles were being brought in to remove about 100 people who are hunkered down
