Fishing report: Cooler water temperatures improve trout fishing

Here are some highlight from the fishing report that will appear in Saturday’s Sports section.

Rivers

Cowlitz: The summer-run steelhead fishing has been slow, but it is expected to pick up in the next couple of weeks as more fish move into the system.

Sol Duc: The river wiil close to all fishing in the vicinity of Sol Duc Hatchery Saturday. The closure, in place until further notice, extends from the Sol Duc Hatchery outfall creek upstream to the concrete pump station. The return of spring/summer chinook salmon to the hatchery are well below egg take needs. The closure is

Fishing report: Action improves as bad weather clears out

Lakes

Crescent: Trolling Wedding Rings in orange or pink is producing catches of rainbow trout.

Drano: Boat anglers averaged almost a chinook per every four rods last week. About 30 percent of the catch were jacks.

Fishing: Good reports for trout and halibut

The return of spring chinook jacks counted at Bonneville Dam is on a near-record pace. Through May 9, a total of 18,032 spring chinook jacks had been counted at the dam. The record, since at least 1960, was 18,119 fish in 2009. That year, nearly 82,000 jacks were counted through June 15, the end of the spring chinook count at the dam, said Joe Hymer with the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Lakes

Fishing report: Lowland lake season opens Saturday, fishing good at year-round

Saturday is the opening of the lowland lake trout fishing season, and some people will be on the water at 12:01 a.m. If you do plan to head out, remember to have a current fishing license and to give other anglers enough room.

Lakes

American: Trolling Wedding Rings and Dick Nite spoons is producing good catches of rainbow trout. Also, trolling a pink mini squid behind a pinl dodger also is effective.

Nunnally: The fishing is good, especially if you are looking to catch a lot of fish, just not large ones. Most people are retrieving leeches and catching plenty

Fishing report: Weekend rain slowed the action

If you were like me last weekend, stuck dodging the rain while running from indoor soccer games to lacrosse games, the idea of going fishing certainly would have seemed appealing. Well, it wasn’t. That’s the consensus of just about everyone regarding last weekend’s action.

Still, some people were catching fish. Here are the highlights from the fishing report that will run in Wednesday’s Sports section.

Rivers

Columbia: The salmon fishing improved some last week. In sampling done below Bonneville Dam, 3,225 anglers had 479 adult and three jack spring chinook and four steelhead. Sturgeon anglers are catching some legal-size fish

Fishing report: Local salmon fishing improves

Here are the highlights from today’s fishing report, prepared by my co-worker Bruce Drysdale.

SALTWATER

South Sound: Anglers aren’t heading out from Point Defiance boathouse in great numbers, but those who have are seeing better luck and bigger fish recently, including a 10-pound, 14-ounce chinook over the weekend and many in the 6-to-8-pound range. Try your luck over by Vashon Island on the low tide and closer to the park on high tide.

LAKES

Spanaway: Fishing is good for hefty trout. Trollers are having good luck going slow with Rapalas around 15 feet. Bank anglers are using rainbow PowerBait or
