The highest point in Mount Rainier National Park that can be reached by vehicle will open ahead of schedule Friday.

Warm weather has helped melt snow, allowing staff to open Sunrise Road and Sunrise Lodge early. The visitor center is scheduled to open July 3.

The Paradise, Longmire, Ohanapecosh and Carbon River ares of the park are already open for the season. The Narada Falls trail is also open, but may close periodically due to construction.

The Cougar River Campground opens Thursday and the White River Campground follows Friday.

Mowich Lake Road is open Wednesday, July 3, but about three feet of snow remains. The parking lot is clear, though, and the lake is still frozen. Trail route finding is necessary.
