Anglers are reminded that new fishing rules go into effect Wednesday. You can find all the rules online.

The bulk of Wednesday’s fishing report are opening-day stats from lakes around the South Sound.

Bay: This lake had the best catch rate among Pierce County lakes that opened Saturday. Anglers averaged 5.7 trout a person. All told, people caught 660 trout.

Clear (Pierce): Trout anglers averaged 4.9 fish a person. In addition, there were 44 kokanee caught on Saturday.

Clear (Thurston): This lake produced the largest number of opening-day trout in the county. Anglers landed 388 trout Saturday, an average of 5.6 per person.

Haven: This Mason County lake was another hot spot on opening day. The state creel showed people catching an average of 7.7 trout per person.

Long: This was the place to be fishing in Thurston County on Saturday’s trout opener. Anglers averaged 9.4 trout a person. Some holdovers measured almost 20 inches long.

North: Among King County lakes checked Saturday, this water had the best catch average, 7.1 trout per person.

McIntosh: The opening day creel check showed an average catch of 5.7 trout per person.

Ohop: While the lake didn’t produce extraordinary numbers – 197 trout total, 4.1 fish per person – the trout that were caught were “huge,” according to a state report.

Panther: Fly fishermen catching and release trout helped raise the average catch rate on this Mason County lake to 12.7 fish per person. Slyvia: This Grays Harbor County lake produced a rainbow measuring 22 inches on Saturday. Overall, the catch average was 2.6 fish per person.
