Phil Colyar of Wenatchee has caught a potential state record for lake trout, landing a 35 pound, 10 ounce fish on Lake Chelan Feb. 4.
The current record was a 35 pound, 7 ounce fish caught by John G. Hossack Dec. 31, 2001 on Lake Chelan.
Colyar was fishing above the narrows and when the fish hit a purple Worden Lures U2 Flatfish with a chartreuse bill in about 270 feet of water, said Anton Jones of Darrell and Dad’s Family Guide Service.
The lunker measured 44 ½ inches long with a 28-inch girth.
The fish has qualified for the state record, but the process has not been completed yet, said a state official.
