The lower section of the river will reopen to fishing for all game fish starting Wednesday. Reopening is the stretch from the mouth upstream to Rockport-Cascade Road, according to the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.

State fishery managers had closed the river because they were concerned hatchery winter steelhead broodstock collection would not meet its goal. On Monday afternoon, the department announced the hatchery staff had collected enough fish, allowing rhe river to reopen to fishing for all gamefish.
