After decades of making women weak in the knees, Italian model Fabio Lanzoni plans to show Tacoma how to get stronger Saturday.

The romance novel cover model, author, actor and fitness guru will appear Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at the Proctor Metropolitan Market.

Fabio’s appearance is to promote whey protein and other nutrition products developed by his company, Healthy Planet Nutrition.

Ricci King of Metropolitan Market’s says the appearance was set up after she was approached by Fabio’s broker to start selling the products last year. She says don’t be skeptical if all you know about Fabio are his shirtless appearances on book covers or as the chiseled spokesman for “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter.”

“You might be surprised to know that he is very well respected in the fitness community,” King said. “He’s written books on fitness. He’s 53 and in excellent shape.”

King says Healthy Planet protein is “the best tasting whey protein I’ve ever had.”

King has seen Fabio at other nutrition events and says he’s always willing to talk nutrition and fitness.

“He spends a lot of time with customers and loves to answers questions,” King said. “There are no dumb questions with him. He loves to inform and teach.”

The other products Fabio is promoting are his lines of colostrum (an immune system enhancer) and glutamine (an amino acid used for post workout recovery). The products sell for $35-45 on his website, HealthyPlanetVitamins.com

Fabio’s Tacoma visit is part of Northwest tour of Metropolitan Markets that starts Thursday and ends Sunday with stops at Seattle stores. His appearance is part of the grocery chain’s Choose Your Path to Wellness month which includes various events at the chain’s six stores.
