REI plans to open a store in Silverdale, the Kent-based company announced this morning.

In a statement released today by the 74-year-old company, it announced the 24,500-square-foot store will be located at the intersection of Randall Way and Myhre Place. The store will include a bike shop, rental department and space for community meetings and classes.

“Our new Silverdale store will be much more convenient for more than 15,000 active REI members who reside along the Kitsap Peninsula,” Kevin Golic, an REI retail director, said in the prepared statement. “We look forward to providing REI’s quality products, advice and service to the many that consider the community the gateway to the Olympics.”

REI expects to hire 50 employees for the store. The store is scheduled to open in the fall of 2013.
