A rock slide that closed U.S. Highway 101 at Lake Crescent Wednesday has been cleared to reopen one lane of the road to alternating traffic at mile 228, the Washington State Department of Transportation said at 6 p.m.

Geologists deemed the hillside stable, WSDOT said.

Workers have resumed a rock-scaling construction project at the site.

Only one lane of the road will be open until the project is finished.
