UPDATE, Thursday, 10:29 a.m. - Lewis County Coroner Warren McCloud says the identification of the body found at Mount Rainier is still pending.

UPDATE, 10:37 a.m. – The Lewis County Coroner’s office said moments ago that the body has not yet been positively identified but they hope to identify the body by the end of today.

Rangers recovered the body of a woman Monday from the base of a cliff below Ricksecker Point at Mount Rainier National Park, officials said today.

The injuries are consistent with a fall from a great height, the park said in a release. The body is not one of the four people who went missing higher on the mountain in January, said park spokeswoman Patti Wold. Only three of those bodies have been recovered.

Ground crews and a helicopter began searching Monday after rangers connected a vehicle that had been parked at the point for several days to a missing person report Sunday night.

The body was airlifted by helicopter to the Lewis County Coroner. The coroner’s office has not yet identified the woman.

The park is investigating the incident, Wold said.

Ricksecker Point is an overlook just off the Longmire-Paradise Road west of Paradise.

The woman is the 10th person to die in the park since December.
