The road to Sunrise will not open today in order to support the effort to recover the body of climbing ranger Nick Hall on Mount Rainier.

Hall fell to his death Thursday while rescuing four injured climbers high on the Emmons Glacier. Poor weather has kept the recovery team from reaching his body by helicopter.

Park officials originally hoped to open the road to Paradise for the summer on Friday morning and the said late Friday they hoped to open today. However, park spokesman Kevin Bacher has announced the road will remain closed today.

It is currently unclear if the road will open Sunday.
