If you want to do some fishing, but can’t afford to buy a state fishing license, this weekend is for you.

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife will hold its annual Free Fishing Weekend Saturday and Sunday during which no license is required for anyone.

In addition to not needing a license to fish, no vehicle use permit or Discover Pass will be required during this weekend to park at any of the nearly 600 water-access sites managed by the department.

While no licenses are required during Free Fishing Weekend, anglers are reminded that other rules such as season closures, size limits and bag limits are still in effect.

A state freshwater fishing licenses cost $27.50 for resident adults 16-69 years old. Fifteen-year-olds and persons with disabilities can buy a license for $8.25, and seniors 70 and older can buy an annual fishing license for $5.50. Children 14 and younger do not need a fishing license.
