The Foothills Trail today was one of 54 land and water trails to be named a national recreation trail. (The News Tribune file, 2008)

Just before Orting, WA., dog walkers, bicyclist, and joggers enjoy the McMillin to Orting portion of the Pierce County Parks Dept. Foothills Trail which was completed in 1993. Mt. Rainier is pictured in the background. Dave Seago is writing a piece for Sunday looking back at his long career here. One of the major points he will make is his role in advocating for open space and the Foothills Trail. (Russ Carmack/The News Tribune)
