Members of the Gig Harbor Police Marine Patrol will be available Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. to provide safety inspections for all boats.

This event is to help the boating public make sure that they have the proper safety equipment for their boats. Staffers from West Marine also will be on hand to help update outdated equipment.

Patrol officers will be able to answer questions about the Mandatory Boater Education Card.

This year, if you are 40 years or younger you are required to have a boater education card.

If your boat is on a trailer, just bring it to the Gig Harbor Civic Center, 3510 Grandview St., Gig Harbor. A marine officer will complete a boat safety inspection and make sure all the required equipment is on board.

If your boat is moored at a local marina, call 253-250-1781 and an officer will be sent to your boat to complete an inspection. Boaters from other locations who come to Gig Harbor that day also can call ahead and arrange for an inspection time.

Boaters will need to gave identification, boat documents and all safety equipment that you would need if you were going out on the water.

For more information, contact Officer Mike Allen at 253-853-2428.
