Margaret Anderson: Former park chief reacts

Earlier today I spoke with former Mount Rainier National Park Superintendent Dave Uberuaga. Now working as the superintendent at Grand Canyon National Park, he described Anderson as quiet and deliberate.

Like so many others, he was stunned to hear the news of Anderson’s death. Uberuaga said Anderson and her family lived only a few blocks from his former home in Eatonville.

“The way I describe her, she was focused on improving the park
programs she was responsible for,” he said. “She was a mom first and foremost, but you’d never know that at work. (She and her husband) were able to work it out so they could be home with the kids.

“Balancing two park service careers, taking care of the kids, and being so good at what she did is amazing,” Uberuaga said.
