It’s not just 2011 that will come to an end Saturday. So will your opportunity to fish for steelhead and salmon in several areas. It’s also the last day for crabbing until summer 2012.
Today is the last day to fish for steelhead on Mill Creek, a tributary of the Cowlitz River. It’s also the last day to fish for salmon on several rivers including the Washougal, the Tilton and the mainstem of the Columbia from the Interstate 5 to Highway 395 in Pasco.
Check the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife website, wdfw.wa.gov, for other rules changes that might impact your favorite fishing spot at the start of the year.
Puget Sound also shuts down for crabbing at sunset tonight.
Crabbers have until Feb. 1 to report their winter catch to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. They must file reports even if they didn’t catch crab or face a $10 fine. Visit wdfw.wa.gov for information on submitting catch reports
