Westport salmon fishing cut back to Thursdays-Sundays

Effective immediately, recreational salmon fishery off Westport is again restricted to five days a week, Sundays through Thursdays.

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife made the announcement this morning.

Anglers have been fishing daily in Marine Area 2 since early this month, but a significant increase in the recreational catch prompted a return to the Sunday-through-Thursday schedule, said Pat Pattillo, salmon policy coordinator.

“Since opening ocean waters off Westport to daily fishing, the number of anglers has dramatically increased and we saw record numbers of chinook caught,” Pattillo said in a news release. “Making this change now is

Capital Forest Classic mountain bike race is Saturday and Sunday

Received this e-mail a few minutes ago from the Friends of Capitol Forest, a non-profit group of volunteer mountain bikers that maintains and builds trails in this state forest. The Capitol Forest Classic is this weekend and is the groups primary fundraiser.

Hurricane Ridge Ride set for Sunday

Details on the Hurricane Ridge Ride from Olympic National Park:

Olympic National Park will host an exciting opportunity for cyclists to “Ride the Hurricane” on Sunday, August 7.

“Ride the Hurricane” is a recreational ride up Hurricane Ridge Road, organized by the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by several local businesses. Registration information is available on the Chamber’s website at

DNR: Discover Pass reopens Snow Cabin Campground

The Washington Department of Natural Resources announced today the reopening Snow Cabin Campground in Ahtahum State Forest near Yakima. The DNR says the new Discover Pass is the reason for the reopening.

One month after the state launched the Discover Pass on July 1, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reopened Snow Cabin Campground in the Ahtanum State Forest. Bridge repair on Hoh Road starts today

From Olympic National Park:

The Jefferson County Public Works Department has announced that repairs to the Willoughby Creek Bridge, on Upper Hoh Road near milepost 3.5, will start on August 1.

Access to the Hoh Rain Forest of Olympic National Park will remain open throughout the repair work, but some traffic delays are anticipated.

According to Jefferson County officials, the repair work will require a limited number of one-hour closures. These one-hour closures are scheduled to occur starting August 8 through August 11, and will only occur between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
