Washington’s National Park Fund had hired Laurie Ward to be its next executive director. She began work on Wednesday.

Ward has been working as the director of development and communications for The Mountaineers in Seattle. Ward oversaw the redesign of The Mountaineers magazine and website. She also initiated planned giving, leadership giving, and annual support for The Mountaineers, said a news release.

She takes over for Eleanor Kittelson, who will leaves on July 1 after having led the fund since May 2007. Kittelson is leaving to seek a new opportunity in the private sector.
Ward received a bachelor of arts degree in communications and public relations, and a bachelor of science degree in recreation and parks administration from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colo. She received a master of science degree in education with an emphasis on fundraising and development from the University of Wisconsin, La Crossem Wis.

The fund is the only philanthropic organization dedicated exclusively to supporting Olympic, North Cascades and Mount Rainier national parks. Click here to learn more about the fund.
